Have you ever been in a position where you’re not entirely sure you’re going to get the outcome that you really wanted, but when you got it you realised that it was going to make a difference to your organisation?
Well, that’s what this blog is about – how to get a great outcome, even when you are thrown a curve ball.

Getting a great outcome starts with everyone understanding the reason why…..and that comes down to communication.
I mean if you were building a house and you asked the bricklayers what they are doing, they would probably say “I’m laying bricks”. And if you asked the roofers what they were up to, they would no doubt say – “I’m putting a roof on”. But wouldn’t it be better if actually they all turned around and said “We’re building a fantastic house” or “We are building the house of your dreams”.
There is a great real life example of this in action, which we have talked about in another blog.
When JFK (John F Kennedy) went to NASA and he was asking everybody about what they were doing in their roles. He spoke to one of the janitors. And the janitor turned answered: “I’m sending a man to the moon!”. Powerful stuff! When the person cleaning the floors knows their part in the outcome and that by making things perfect for the people who are working in that environment, he knew he was contributing to the outcome was for that organization.
If you can really embody that within every individual in your team, then you will really help make sure you move things in the right direction.
Because ideally, you want people to be thinking about how they can make that outcome work for the organisation. You want them focused on the outcome rather than worrying about the details. So it be that you need a bricklayer to lay bricks, or a roofer to put on a roof, it could be any other activity in any other situation.
But really those are just the tools, the nitty-gritty activities that make up the whole project. What you really want though is the outcome and you want everybody on your team to be focusing on what that outcome is.
So I challenge you to go away and really make sure your team is really focused and they know their importance in the greater scheme of things. That way you know you are going to get the outcomes. Otherwise, you will find yourself in a position where you are not going to get the results that you’re looking for.
